Yes … Real Fur Is Really Dead For the past four decades, PETA has been an unstoppable force in revolutionizing the fashion industry. Fur was once the most desirable garment, and few imagined that fur coats would go “extinct.” Today, nearly every top designer – including Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors, Gucci, and Versace – has ditched fur. Department store chains have followed suit, including Macy’s and Nordstrom, and whole countries are shutting down fur farms. Stockholm Fashion Week’s 2020 (digital) runways were free of fur and exotic skins. whether for fur, cashmere, exotic skins, leather, wool, silk, or down. Following PETA’s exposés, brands around the globe, from Ann Taylor to Zara, have dropped angora and mohair. UNIQLO, the world’s third-largest retailer – along with Valentino, Columbia Sportswear, and others – banned alpaca fleece following a PETA exposé. Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger recently banned the use of exotic animal skins, following the lead of Chanel and Victoria Beckham. Leather and Cashmere Made From Flowers As the momentum against stealing animals’ hair and skin grows, so do consumers’ choices. HUGO BOSS, Reebok, H&M, and other brands have embraced innovative options – like cashmere made from
milkweed, wool from recycled plastic bottles or hemp, and leather from flowers, pineapple, or cork. The global demand for humanely produced materials is growing at such a fast clip, experts predict that the vegan leather market will top $90 billion by 2025.

A MESSAGE FROM Ingrid Newkirk PETA’s President S ix years ago, I got an urgent call from the wonderful Helga Tacreiter, who runs The Cow Sanctuary in New Jersey. A panicked veterinary student had contacted her: The sow he’d cared for and grown fond of was on a truck, bound for slaughter, despite his pleas to spare her. For two long years, that pig and seven others had endured metal “iron maidens” – pens only inches wider than their own bodies. They’d been artificially inseminated (i.e., raped) and all their piglets had been taken from them. Now, the veterinary course over, their “usefulness” was over, too. I said PETA would pay to save them if Helga could pull off a miracle, and she did. She somehowmanaged to reach the truck driver and persuade him to change course. All eight sows were taken to her sanctuary instead of the slaughterhouse! That night, they slept on grass, under the stars, smelling fresh spring air for the first time in their lives. Soon, they got to root in fields, swim in a pond, and eat strawberries, melons, and other treats. I still have the ugly plastic tags that Helga removed from their notched, infected ears. If PETA persuades enough people to go vegan, one day those implements of torture will be in an animal rights museum. Recently, one of the sows, Chummy, passed away. “She had a wonderful last six years that hopefully balanced out the horror of the first years of her life,” Helga wrote. “PETA stepping in made it possible.”
The world’s leading chocolatier, Barry Callebaut, listened to PETA and PETA Germany and stopped contributing to painful experiments not required by any law, sparing countless pigs, mice, rats, and other animals. And,

Goodbye, meat. Hello, veggies. That was Sir Paul, Mary, and Stella McCartney’s message to British schools, urging them on PETA UK’s behalf to suspend mandatory servings of meat and dairy and replace them with more vegan choices. Kids agree: According to a poll, 70% of British children want more vegan options at school. “No one needs to eat meat,” Sir Paul said. “It’s time to revise the School Food Standards to help the planet, spare animals, and promote healthy eating.” Stay tuned!

Victory! University Expels ‘Forced Swim Tests’
Stepping in and stepping up makes it possible not only for truck drivers to change course but for all humans to do so. Please, let’s constantly, loudly, and unflinchingly identify ourselves as what we are – animals – and challenge anyone who eats them. Introduce people to vegan ham and vegan bacon, and let them see how great life – not death – can be.
PETA and its international affiliates socially distanced and masked up (sometimes in animal costumes or hazmat suits), but the shutdowns and lockdowns didn’t slow them down. On the Las Vegas strip, PETA urged design houses to save everyone’s skin by ditching exotic skins. A fter being shipped halfway around the globe, in filthy conditions and without sufficient food or water, some cows are so weak or injured that they no longer have the strength to stand up. They’re treated as if they were cars or furniture – hoisted off docked ships by one leg with a crane (which can cause excruciatingly painful joint dislocations and broken legs) or kicked down a ramp to the dock, before being dropped onto a slaughterhouse-bound truck. This is live export, and it’s just one of the many forms of abuse that cows, sheep, and other animals endure in the global leather and wool trades. Investigative journalist Manfred Karremann’s new exposé, which was first released by PETA Germany and broke in the US via an exclusive in Vogue Business , shows the perilous, grueling journey of cows killed for leather.
‘Fleather’ Is
From Berlin to Beirut Each exploited animal is an individual – hurt, scared, and ultimately killed for a sweater, jacket, glove lining, car seat, hat, or shoe. More than 1.4 billion cows, sheep, and goats and millions of other animals, some pregnant or nursing, are killed for leather every year. Investigators documented Brazilian cows transported for weeks on ships bound for Turkey. From there, some animals continue on to Iraq in trucks. German and Austrian cows were traced all the way to Lebanon. Sheep go from South Africa across the ocean and beyond. During these arduous voyages, scared and seasick animals endure heat and cold with no protection and stand huddled tightly together in their own excrement. They can’t help but jostle each other as the ship shifts, causing injuries. If they fall down, they can be trampled to death.
Karremann and PETA Germany also investigated the billion-dollar leather industry in Bangladesh, where conscious cows’ throats are cut and they struggle to escape even as their skin is torn off – and where child workers stand in toxic chemicals while they soak the animals’ hides. Wool’s Link to Live Export PETA and Animals Australia’s revelations about ships sent to the Middle East from Australia – carrying discarded sheep, who suffer mightily – caused a scandal, but the shipments continue. throats are slit. They’re simply pushed to the ground, sometimes bound miserably by all four legs before being slashed with a knife. Video recorded in Libya and Lebanon shows that workers kill cows and sheep in full view of other animals and throw them onto a pile to let them bleed out, while they struggle and writhe in pain. Getting Under Their Skin Karremann has worked with PETA for decades to expose the horrors of the skins trade. In 1999, he and PETA President Ingrid Newkirk documented the grueling death marches that cows face in India, Ingrid’s childhood home. Forced to trudge for 50 to 100 miles (80 to 160 kilometers) without sustenance to states where slaughter is allowed, the animals are desperately hungry, parched, exhausted, and often lame or ill – and many collapse. Herders mercilessly break their tailbones, smear chili peppers and tobacco into their eyes, and beat them severely to make them keep moving.
Fashion-Forward
Designers and retailers are increasingly embracing innovative and sustainable vegan leather – made from apples, cork, mushrooms, paper, tea, and other animal-free materials – a
sign of how much progress PETA and its affiliates have made in exposing the suffering involved in the skins trade. LET’S END THE SALE OF SKIN, WOOL, AND HAIR
SAVED!
M ost people never wonder what becomes of the sheep behind their woolly sweaters. Animals in the Australian wool industry – where most wool comes from – usually end up at the mercy of the live-export trade, a one-way ticket on a filthy, jam-packed ship to a grisly death in the Middle East. Jason Baker, PETA’s senior vice president of international campaigns, was fortunate enough to be able to help two sheep escape that fate. He was documenting conditions at a sale yard when a pair of frail sheep caught his eye. They were so emaciated that their hip and rib bones protruded, and what little fleece they had left was filthy and spattered with blood from cuts and gashes. He slipped money to a worker and whisked them away to a veterinarian. Bound for a sanctuary, Hope and John, as they were named, would receive TLC from here on out instead of facing terror on the high seas. Helping Sheep Jump Ship
E very year, billions of thinking, feeling animals, who have suffered through a miserable life, endure a violent death in the clothing industry. Urban Outfitters, Inc., which owns Anthropologie and Free People, still sells racks of clothes made from hides and hair, despite already offering luxurious, animal-free textiles as alternatives. PETA has shown
the company the atrocious abuse that animals – from alpacas and geese to sheep – experience in the clothing industry. One wonders just how many investigations it will take for retailers to stop stocking anything stolen from an unwilling animal. The answer lies with consumers. Oust Alpaca Knitwear Young people in particular said, “No more alpaca!” when a disturbing undercover PETA investigation in Peru revealed that workers on the world’s largest privately owned alpaca farm – which supplies alpaca fleece to Anthropologie and Free People – hit, kicked, and tied animals down to shear them for their wool. Pregnant alpacas were slammed onto tables, many of them crying out and vomiting in fear. Terrified, they were stretched out using devices that looked like medieval torture racks, and many were left bleeding from deep, painful wounds caused by aggressive shearing. Kicked in the Head for Wool Don’t ever think wool requires “just a haircut” for sheep or is “no big whoop” to get! In every exposé of more than 116 sheep-shearing operations on four continents, PETA or its affiliates found gentle sheep cut, beaten, stomped on, kicked in the face, or even killed as a result of shearers’ temper tantrums. Shearers – paid to handle as many sheep as possible in the shortest amount of time – often leave animals injured, bleeding, and scared out of their wits. Deep cuts get crudely sewn up with no pain relief . No Mo’ Mohair, and Cut Out Cashmere On factory farms in South Africa, where long-haired goats are raised for mohair, PETA Asia filmed workers dragging the animals across the floor, picking them up by the tail – causing enormous pain and perhaps dislocations – and mutilating them with knives and pliers . Final stop: painful backyard slaughter.
uncovered “cashmere” goats screaming in pain and fear as workers held them down, twisted their limbs, and tore out their hair with sharp metal combs – again, with absolutely no pain relief. After wringing every last bit of profit from them, workers drag the goats into a slaughterhouse. In China, investigators documented goats hit on the head with a hammer, which left them reeling but conscious. In Mongolia, investigators documented workers cutting goats’ throats and leaving them to bleed out on the floor, without any attempt to stun them first. Ditch Down, and Lose the Leather PETA’s down investigations have exposed that geese are sometimes “live-plucked,” i.e., kept alive and plucked over and over again, leaving them shaking and bloody each time. The terrified birds are restrained, sometimes with a human’s entire bodyweight on their slim necks. When the birds get older, they’re shipped to slaughter and hung upside down. Their throats are cut, and they’re dunked – often while still conscious and struggling – into the scalding-hot water of the defeathering tank. Who wants cruelty like that in a coat? As for cows, numerous PETA exposés in multiple countries show that they’re burned, electroshocked, beaten, and slaughtered for leather bags, coats, and shoes – as are dogs in China. Give Silk the Slip Silkworms have central nervous systems, respond to stimuli, and startle when surprised. Yet billions of these tiny beings are boiled alive or gassed inside their cocoons every year to make silk clothing and accessories. Silk lingerie should give anyone the creeps. Makes 4 servings
YOU’LL NEED 100 g pine nuts, toasted 6 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 2 1 /2 Tbsp whole-grain mustard 1 tsp dark agave syrup Salt, to taste White pepper, to taste 450 g wild mushrooms (such as maitake, chestnut, or chanterelle) 1 medium leek, finely chopped 1 Tbsp minced fresh thyme 4 thick slices sourdough or other rustic bread, toasted 1 Tbsp chopped fresh tarragon, for garnish METHOD • Using a pestle and mortar, grind the pine nuts into a fine paste. Add 4 tablespoonfuls of the olive oil, the mustard, and the agave syrup and stir well to combine. Season with the salt and pepper. Set aside. • Chop the mushrooms so that all the pieces are similar in size. In a large frying pan, warm 1 tablespoonful of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and a generous pinch of salt. Cook, stirring often and scraping the pan, until the liquid has evaporated and the mushrooms are starting to brown, about 7 to 10 minutes. Turn off the heat, transfer to a medium bowl, and set aside. • In the same pan, warm the remaining olive oil over medium-low heat. Add the leek and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the thyme and a pinch of salt and cook until the leek is browned and smells fragrant, about 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside. • To serve, generously slather the toast with the mustard-pine nut spread – then top with the leek mixture and the mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper and garnish with the tarragon.

After winning an Endangered Species Act lawsuit against Stark and his now-closed roadside zoo in Indiana, PETA rescued 22 big cats and placed them at accredited sanctuaries. Soon afterward, under court order, PETA confiscated three young lions – including one who could barely walk – from Lowe’s also-shuttered Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, once run by the infamous “Joe Exotic.” Freed from Tiger King tourist traps, the rescued cats are being treated like royalty. No longer pacing in depressingly small cages, they spend their days exploring their spacious enclosures, climbing on large play structures, napping in the sunshine, and swimming in ponds. A s a child, I often spent summers with my grandfather in Gujarat, India, where I took care of various animals who lived on the streets. Seeing how thin they were, I would ration my own meals to share with them. That’s how I learned that cows can tell time! One in particular showed up at my grandfather’s gate and waited for me to finish dinner at the same time every day. She loved vegetable curry and rice, as well as sweets like ladoos , which I didn’t realize at the time were made with ghee (clarified butter). Years later, I wouldn’t consume dairy if you paid me a million rupees! The Calf Who Didn’t Want to Die My career took shape almost 20 years ago, when I visited a slaughterhouse for the first time. It was in Kolkata. One young bull was fighting hard to stay alive. A group of men surrounded him, pushing and pulling him, his eyes wide with fear as he battled to escape the kill floor. Though just a calf, he understood that he was in grave danger, as he could see the mutilated bodies of other cows ahead. He thrashed and bellowed, but the men only got rougher with him. They twisted his neck, and he fell to the ground. Then, with a dull knife, they sawed at his throat. He looked at me through the crowd in his last moments as he gasped, making a terrible, haunting guttural sound. I went back to my hotel and sobbed. That day, I promised myself that I would spend the rest of my life fighting to spare other animals suffering like his. Battling Bullies I was there because of a PETA magazine like this one, which had turned me vegan at age 16. However, one of my first tasks at PETA had nothing to do with cows: It was to disrupt a Michael Kors fur fashion show – not something a shy bookworm like me enjoys doing! I leapt onto the catwalk and was immediately arrested. The officers threw me into a cell with an unbearable stench. When I asked to be moved, the guard jeered, “You’re not at the Marriott, honey.”

I promised myself that I would spend the rest of my life fighting to spare other animals suffering. From Bookworm to Book Author
All animals are dear to me, but cows are particularly close to my heart. It’s not widely known, but they’re often ill-treated in India. Many Indians think good Hindus must drink milk, and Lord Krishna is always depicted with happy cows – not the miserable ones hidden from public view on factory farms. Even “holy cows” suffer when greed corrupts people, as it does everywhere in the world. Dairy is big business, characterized by cruelty that goes against religious morals. An undercover investigation that I helped launch in India showed cows and buffaloes being artificially inseminated and forced to stand knee-deep in their own waste. Their calves were kidnapped from them, just as they are in every country that produces milk. Female calves are eventually used for milk production, and male calves are left to starve or are killed for meat and leather, which was likely the case
with that terrified calf I saw long ago. Their mothers are typically slaughtered, too, once they are no longer profitable. Years after that first encounter with the young bull, I became the CEO of PETA India. On my watch, India banned bull races, cosmetics tests on animals, dissection at universities, and the importation of exotic skins. Once, my image was burned in effigy by those protesting our bull protection work. When I worked undercover in an Indian laboratory, I had to fend off the sexual overtures of a supervisor while documenting monkeys going insane from isolation in cramped, barren cages. And in one slaughterhouse, workers – armed with knives and axes – tried to intimidate me by shoving animal guts in my face. Still, I knew that no matter how I felt, animals had it much worse. I became resolute, and my shyness vanished.
In 2019, realizing that no one had published a book about animal agriculture in India, I wrote For a Moment of Taste . I want everyone to know that animals are thinking, feeling beings – individuals whose lives are just as precious to them as ours are to us. Humans must stop contributing to their immense suffering and violent deaths just for a moment of taste.

Kevin Nealon: A MAN WITH A PLAN

Kevin employs his signature dry wit even when speaking up for animals. Standing next to Golden Girls star and fellow animal rights activist Rue McClanahan at a PETA event years ago, he reminded everyone that Rue means “street” in French – and added that McClanahan means “walker.” In a recent Instagram post, he channeled his inner giraffe by munching on leaves while reading from Ingrid Newkirk’s latest book, Animalkind . We Need to Talk About Kevin Below are just a few of PETA’s favorite “Kevinisms.” I
Coyotes always give him a lift:
“Living in California, I have learned to admire the survival skills of the coyotes. We have all encroached on their habitat and yet they still thrive. … I stopped my car once to watch a large coyote. Twenty yards away, standing in my headlights, he casually looked at me over his shoulder as if to say, ‘Are you my Uber?’” “I’m talking about the big, strength-of-four-grown men chimpanzees. Four grown men – that’s the number they come up with all the time. … They must have done a study at one point, you know, to figure that out. They start with one grown man, you know: ‘Get in the cage with that chimp – let’s see who’s stronger. Oh, no, no, two, two grown men, two grown men! Three, three, three, three!’ – until they get to four. It cost six lives, that study. But it’s worth it. They got their answer: It’s four.” Animal experiments are pointless:
It’s the effort that counts:

“Because this is a tough world and can be cruel at times, we all have to make an effort. A couple months ago, I raised $20,000 in the plight to help the animals. … Anyway, like I said, you know, this is a tough world, so I kept most of that money for myself. But the point is I made the effort, and that’s what I’m talking about.”
C omedian Kevin Nealon sees the humor in just about anything – except cruelty to animals. Back in his Saturday Night Live days, he traveled to Las Vegas to help with PETA’s legal battle against Bobby Berosini, the seedy “entertainer” caught on video using a metal rod to beat the orangutans used in his act. Thankfully, what happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas: All the orangutans were finally rescued and the show put out of business. Now, the ManWith a Plan actor has a plan to ban vivisection. He stars in a new PETA video in which he slams animal experiments, calling them “archaic pseudo-science.” “Trusting animal experiments is like when doctors endorsed cigarettes and actually smoked in hospitals. … It’s that crazy!” he says. “There’s been so much wasted time and so many wasted lives – the animals who died in experiments that meant nothing and the people who died waiting for a cure that wasn’t found because of bad science.”
Eating meat has so many “benefits”:
“Trusting animal experiments is like
“I enjoy eating meat, and lots of it. I can’t wait for mealtime when I can chow down on the decomposing corpse of a tortured animal. I like knowing that eating meat makes me four times more likely to have a heart attack or a stroke.” There are telltale signs of politicians “least likely to succeed”: “I don’t know what it is about all these presidents and candidates that think that they will appeal to people by saying they’re a hunter. … Will we ever get into a war with bears or deer? I don’t think so.”
Here’s how he started with PETA:
when doctors endorsed cigarettes and actually smoked in hospitals. … It’s that crazy!”
“It’s been more years than I care to count since I threw my support behind PETA. I didn’t have a choice really. They threatened to take my firstborn son. He’s almost a teenager now, and I’m wondering if we might be able to renegotiate that deal.”

… and why he’s still with PETA:
are at long last ending those tests. Plus, Al Gore is a vegan. Because he, like the rest of us, knows resistance is futile.”
“You just don’t say ‘no’ to PETA. They knowwhere you live, and they are willing to go to your house and stand outside with posters telling all your friends, neighbors, and the UPS guy your deepest, darkest secrets. I’ll never forget themonths PETA spent following Al Gore all over the country to expose the Environmental Protection Agency’s horrific toxicity tests on animals. Now… they

Y ou care about animals. That’s why you wouldn’t dream of eating meat. But if you still eat eggs, yogurt, and cheese, perhaps you mistakenly think, “Well, animals aren’t killed for that.” Actually, they are! Insiders peel back the deadly illusion that keeps the suffering alive.

Worker Blows the Whistle on Dairy Farm Atrocities Cows exploited for their milk don’t go to a retirement home, either. They get kicked down a slaughter ramp after a life of hardship. At Ferme Ste-Sophie, a Canadian dairy farm, a whistleblower captured truly grim video footage. One calf was so sick that she trembled uncontrollably. A downed cow reportedly lay trapped in a quicksand-like pit of feces for two days before being shot to death. The whistleblower reported that three workers kicked a cow while she was giving birth , and another worker repeatedly struck a lame cow . One cow couldn’t bear any weight on her infected hoof but was forced to stand for daily milking. Another cow reportedly bled profusely for days after giving birth – until the farm owner eventually shot her in the head. Filthy conditions caused calves to become sick, with as many as 12 afflicted calves shot in just one day – and then left to rot. Living, Feeling Beings – Not Omelets or Pizza Topping Every chicken and cow is someone who deserves respect and compassion. Yet investigations around the globe, including a recent PETA Australia egg farm exposé, reveal rampant abuse in the egg and dairy industries. Take Action Now PETA has held protests at Walmart stores across North America to encourage the retail giant to reconsider its ties with Trillium. Please join the call to action at PETA.org/WalmartEggCruelty . Save the lives of cows and chickens by refusing to buy dairy or eggs, in addition to shunning meat. Choose vegan foods, bake with egg replacers, and explore vegan cookbooks. Visit PETA.org for recipes, shopping tips, vegan-friendly restaurants, and more.
Hens used for eggs don’t have a retirement home to go to after they’re “spent.” After being tipped off by whistleblowers, PETA went undercover at an Ohio farm whose eggs are sold at Walmart under its Great Value brand. Trillium Farm Holdings keeps nearly 2 million hens on that farm, and in one shed alone, PETA’s investigator found hundreds of dead birds who had become trapped in the wire flooring of the filthy, severely crowded cages. Their bodies had been left to rot among the surviving birds, who had no choice but to stand on top of them.
An injured cow is trapped in a pit of manure.
The hens were denied everything that was
important to them, and they certainly were not given a quick, painless death.

PETA Uncovers Walmart Egg Supplier’s Secrets The hens were denied everything that was important to them, and they certainly weren’t given a quick, painless death. PETA’s investigator found a severely injured bird a worker had unsuccessfully attempted to kill, languishing in a trash can. Despite immediately notifying the supervisor, the investigator came back two days later and found the same hen still suffering. The investigator also found a hen stuck between a trough and a conveyor belt and was able to free her, but a worker grabbed the bird and attempted to kill her by twisting and pulling on her head over and over again before finally dropping her, still alive, on the floor. Another worker ripped the head off a live hen . Workers stuffed 100,000 “spent” hens into metal boxes and gassed themwith carbon dioxide – a painful death. The investigator could hear the chickens crying out and throwing themselves against the walls of the boxes.

8 a.m. – I load the PETA van with supplies and head out to a rural North Carolina county so impoverished that it doesn’t have a humane society or a veterinary clinic. PETA fieldworkers like me are the only hope for the animals there. 10:30 a.m. – My first stop is the home of a pit bull named Layla who is chained 24 hours a day. PETA has gotten chaining banned in numerous other communities – and is working on this one! Like many forgotten “outside dogs,” Layla is still wearing the collar that was put on her as a puppy, which is now far too small and has rubbed her skin raw. I replace it with one that fits properly and then gently but firmly remind her owners that she isn’t a lawn ornament: She’s a sensitive, social individual who needs to live indoors with her only family – them.
crisis. Sunrize’s guardian is legally blind and uses a wheelchair. She is so grateful for this service that she presents me with a picture that she painted herself!
Every day and every animal is different. While I may not be able to help them all, like the fable about the many starfish who had washed up on the beach and were thrown back into the ocean one by one, I can help Layla, Scarface, Luna, Sunrize, Addie, and many others.
LUNA
Luna reminds me of Bella, a puppy who had only an overturned trashcan for “shelter” when I found her. I set her up with a free PETA doghouse and stuffed it with straw to provide some insulation.
SCARFACE
SUNRIZE
11:15 a.m. – I stop to check on Scarface, a pit bull who lives indoors with his devoted, elderly guardian. A fewmonths back, I transported him to the PETA clinic for treatment of a skin infection, so I want to make sure he’s doing well. I give him some toys, which he pounces on like a kid at Christmas. Last year, PETA provided more than 3,000 animals with free food and medical treatment, a vital service appreciated by impoverished guardians. 12:30 p.m. – I pull up at Luna’s place, as I try to do at least once a month. She’s a pit bull confined to a tiny pen and one of the thousands of dogs PETA has provided with free doghouses to give them a fighting chance against the bitter winter cold. Her owners give me permission to let her out of her pen while I clean it and fill her water bucket. She has a blast racing around and rolling in the grass – such a simple thing brings her so much joy.
BELLA BEFORE
3:30 p.m. – Today is a banner day for Addie. This pup has spent years on a chain, but her owner has decided, at last, to set her free and allow PETA to find her a new home! I’m so happy about it that I snap a selfie with her and actually break into song during the long drive back to PETA’s headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. 10 p.m. – I’m on call tonight, responding to calls to PETA’s 24-hour emergency hotline, which fields reports of animals in dire need. I answer a call about an elderly pit bull who has been struck by a car and is seriously injured. The dog’s owners were going to shoot him but thankfully decided to contact PETA instead. I race out and help this poor old guy peacefully over the rainbow bridge.

Please contribute to the program’s success by donating to PETA or sending new or gently used books that depict kindness and compassion to animals to Barks & Books, PETA, 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA 23510.
BELLA AFTER
2:30 p.m. – I pick up a cat named Sunrize to take him to one of PETA’s mobile spay/neuter clinics, which sterilize over 12,000 animals a year, preventing more births that would exacerbate the homeless-animal
