“I like to game online under the gamertag VGNGamer12. I’m constantly fielding questions about vegan eating and suggesting vegan treats they can try.” -Scott Brewer
“Every time my sister gets a new issue of
PETA Global, she takes it to the florist where she works and shares it with her coworkers. The shop owners thanked her for opening their eyes to the issues, and now they always have vegan lunch options for the employees.” -Lori Painter
“I ‘changed the narrative’ of a prominent bookstore display by placing my favorite vegan cookbooks over the meaty ones.” -Rachel Stotts
W hen PETA tweeted out a list of kinder, gentler versions of anti-animal idioms, the Twitterverse – and other ’verses – exploded. Virtually overnight, everyone was talking about “speciesism” (a word many had never heard before), discussing the plight of animals in relation to other social justice movements and the notion that words can reinforce unkind ideas. Many embraced the concept, tweeting their own suggestions, including “putting all your eggplant in one basket” and “curiosity thrilled the cat.” People loved PETA’s suggestion to “bring home the bagels,” not the bacon. A Texas police officer’s video went viral when he and his partner used an outstretched blanket to catch a kitten falling from a tree, and afterward he exclaimed triumphantly, “There’s more than one way to catch a cat!”

“When I’m out taking walks, I always pop animal rights books, vegan starter kits, and PETA sticker sheets inside the Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood. They are always gone when I return!” -Tiffany Rose
