Saving Lives in a Cemetery

PETA Asia goes into some of Manila’s most poverty-stricken areas – including Sarhento Mariano Cemetery, where families live with their animals among the tombs. It provides spay/ neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and other vital services to animals like Ating (right), whose loving guardian cried with joy when staffer Ashley Fruno took her to a veterinarian for treatment. When Bunso (left) was hit by a car, PETA Asia provided him with emergency veterinary care, vaccinations, and neuter surgery before reuniting him with his doting guardian.

Nutmeg (below left) and her sister, Cinnamon – aka “The Spice Girls” – were brought to PETA Asia by a volunteer after they were orphaned. The group spayed the puppies and adopted them into loving homes. After neutering Kulas (below right), treating him for a painful tooth infection, and persuading his owner to stop chaining him, his quality of life improved a hundredfold.

Reddick only had a few patches of red fuzz left on him when PETA Asia found him living with his guardian on top of a mausoleum. After being neutered, vaccinated, and treated for mange, he was almost unrecognizable – in a good way.

Conquering Animal Overpopulation, One Village at a Time

I

As part of its efforts to educate Indian villagers about the benefits of spaying and neutering and to set up village programs, a PETA-supported charity has sterilized every single dog in seven villages – and counting! PETA India has also teamed up with two local groups to sterilize cats in Mumbai’s vast Bandra slum. The charity’s sterilization program helps prevent animals from being born into a life of disease and starvation, like this dog PETA President Ingrid Newkirk found scavenging at a garbage dump. Take Action Now Support PETA’s Global Compassion Fund to sponsor the lifesaving spay/neuter surgery of a dog or cat in Israel, Jamaica, Mexico, Nepal, Palestine, Peru, Ukraine, the US, or another country where PETA helps.
