Rescue of a cow; freedom from pain, injury and disease: On 24 th July, 2019, Mr. Ashantosh Patil informed Mr. Ganesh Dhotre, Animal Welfare Assistant (AWA)/scout of AWU Pandharpur about a cow having wound around her neck which has occurred due to nylon rope tied to her neck very tightly and she is not allowing anyone to approach her. Immediately Mr Ganesh Dhotre and Dr Naresh Upreti, Chief Operating Officer (who was doing scouting with Mr Ganesh Dhotre on that day) rushed to the spot, after reaching spot they observed the situation and after making efforts for 02 hours, with the help of local volunteers, they caught the cow in a nearby building compound. Immediately Dr Naresh Upreti sedated the cow. After achieving effect of sedation, rope was removed from her neck. In the mean time emergency van also reached the spot, then they did the antiseptic dressing of wound. After dressing of wound, antibiotic and painkillers were administered. Then it was discussed where she must be kept, in mean time owner of that cow came and told that he kept cow at other place due to Pandharpur yatra and she escaped and then owner took her to his home. Then on next day team took follow up, but cow again escaped. Then on next day again they took follow up and did dressing, painkiller and antibiotic medicines were given and now wound is healing.
Local health service providers (LHPs) workshop: On 28 th June, 2019 AWU Pandharpur organised a LHPs workshop at AWU Pandharpur office. Total 11 LHPs attended the workshop from different areas of Pandharpur. Dr Rakesh Chittora, Senior Veterinary Trainer facilitated the workshop. During workshop, animal welfare, animal handling, five freedoms, importance of drug dose rates, clinical parameters were discussed.
